Xero
Xero Accountants in Manchester
We run bookkeeping, VAT and year-end accounts through Xero for sole traders, contractors and limited companies across Greater Manchester. If you already use Xero, we pick up your existing organisation and tidy it as we go. If you are new to it, we handle the whole setup so you start with clean, reliable numbers.
Book a free consultationSetup and migration from your current system
Most of the Xero work we take on starts somewhere else: a spreadsheet that has outgrown itself, an ageing desktop package, or another cloud product that never quite fitted. We plan the move around your VAT quarter or year-end, bring across your chart of accounts, contacts, open invoices and balances, and reconcile the converted figures against your last set of accounts before anything goes live.
We also set up the parts that make Xero genuinely useful day to day: bank feeds from your business account, invoice templates with your branding, repeating bills, and sensible tracking categories so you can see which parts of the business actually make money.
MTD-compliant filing through Xero
Xero is HMRC-recognised software for Making Tax Digital. We file VAT returns for clients directly from Xero every quarter, with digital links from your records through to the submission, which is exactly what the MTD rules require.
The bigger change is MTD for Income Tax. From April 2026, sole traders and landlords with income over £50,000 must keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC, with the threshold falling to £30,000 in 2027 and £20,000 in 2028. Getting your records into Xero well before your start date means the first mandatory quarter is routine rather than a scramble, and we handle the submissions as part of your normal service.
Training for you and your team
We train owners and their staff on the parts of Xero they will actually touch: raising and chasing invoices, capturing receipts and expenses on the mobile app, reconciling the bank feed, and reading the reports that matter. Sessions are run one to one or in small groups, at our Eccles office or over video, and we stay on hand afterwards for the quick questions that always come up in the first few weeks.
What it costs
Our work is priced as a fixed monthly fee agreed in advance, so there are no surprise invoices. As a guide, monthly bookkeeping and payroll packages range from £75 to £300 per month depending on volume, sole trader self-assessment returns from £150 to £400, and limited company year-end accounts from £600 to £2,000 or more. Xero subscription fees are billed separately by Xero, and we help you choose the smallest plan that does the job. Setup and migration is quoted as a one-off piece of work once we have seen your current records.
FAQs
Xero questions we hear most often
Can you move my books to Xero from spreadsheets or desktop software?
Yes. We migrate businesses to Xero from spreadsheets, Sage 50, QuickBooks and most other systems. We bring across your chart of accounts, customer and supplier records, open invoices and historical balances, then check the converted figures against your last accounts before you go live.
Is Xero compliant with Making Tax Digital?
Yes. Xero is HMRC-recognised software for MTD for VAT, and it supports the quarterly submissions that MTD for Income Tax will require from April 2026 for sole traders and landlords earning over £50,000. We file directly from Xero on your behalf.
How long does a Xero setup take?
A straightforward new setup is usually ready within a week. A full migration with historical data typically takes two to three weeks, and we time the switch to your VAT quarter or year-end so nothing falls between two systems.
Do I have to do my own bookkeeping in Xero?
Only if you want to. Some clients do their day-to-day invoicing and let us handle reconciliation and filings; others hand the whole thing to us. We agree the split at the start so you are never paying for work you would rather do yourself.
What does Xero cost on top of your fees?
Xero subscriptions are billed by Xero and depend on the plan your business needs. We advise on the right plan before you commit, so you are not paying for features you will not use, and we review it as your business grows.
