Rather not keep track yourself?
Every Isaacs & Co client has these dates tracked for them, with accounts prepared well before the deadline rather than the week of it. Talk it through with George, our Director, in a free 30 minute consultation.
Four dates every limited company has to hit
Each one runs from a date already on the Companies House register, so once you know your year end and your review date, the rest follows.
Annual accounts
Due nine months after the company's financial year end. A company's first accounts are usually due 21 months after incorporation.
Corporation tax payment
Due nine months and one day after the end of the accounting period, unless the company is large enough to pay in instalments.
Company tax return (CT600)
Due twelve months after the end of the accounting period, later than the tax itself, which catches many owners out.
Confirmation statement
Due within 14 days of the end of each twelve month review period, even if nothing has changed.
Common questions
What happens if my accounts are filed late?
Companies House charges an automatic late filing penalty, and the amount goes up the later the accounts are. The penalty doubles if the accounts were also late the year before. If your results show a warning, the figure shown is what would apply if the accounts were filed today.
Why is the tax payment due before the tax return?
For most companies, corporation tax has to be paid nine months and one day after the year end, while the CT600 return is not due until twelve months after. In practice the accounts and return need to be ready before the payment date so you know what to pay.
Do my directors need to verify their identity?
Yes. Identity verification is now a legal requirement for company directors and people with significant control. Existing directors need to verify by the time the company files its next confirmation statement. The tool tells you which date applies to your company.
Does the tool cover VAT, PAYE or self assessment?
No. Those dates depend on details the Companies House register does not hold, such as your VAT stagger or payroll dates. If you want those tracked too, that is part of what we do for clients.
Do you keep my search?
No. Looking up a company stores nothing about you. We only keep your name and email if you ask for reminders and then confirm from the email we send.
Dates are worked out from the public Companies House register and the filing rules in the Companies Act 2006 and HMRC guidance. They assume the company is not paying corporation tax by quarterly instalments. Always check your dates against your Companies House and HMRC accounts, and speak to an accountant if anything looks unusual.
